Building software has always cost money. Now you know what for

In the past you paid for software in one of two ways: you bought it once, or you took out a subscription. What happened after that, whether it worked well or really suited you, was your problem.

Mia OS works differently. The costs are linked to usage: to the AI capacity needed to understand, build and maintain your software. So you pay for what actually happens, not for a licence that ends up in a drawer.

Two layers: your environment and your usage

Mia OS pricing consists, broadly speaking, of two parts.

1. Your fixed environment
Mia OS runs your apps in your own, shielded server environment. That environment is always available, even when you are not actively using Mia. It comes with fixed costs, comparable to renting a workspace that is always ready for you.

2. Your AI usage
Every time Mia carries out a task, such as building an app, making a change or solving a problem, it uses AI capacity. This is measured in tokens: the unit large language models calculate in. The more complex the task, the more tokens it needs.

What are tokens, and do I need to think about them?

Tokens are the unit of measurement for AI. A single sentence is roughly a handful of tokens; a large, complex task can take thousands. You do not have to keep track of this yourself: Mia OS shows your usage in a clear dashboard.

Think of tokens like the data allowance on your phone: you see how much you use, you can top up when you need to, and you are not surprised by a bill out of nowhere. Simple changes cost little; larger build projects cost more. That is fair and transparent.

Pay as you go or choose a bundle

Mia OS usually offers two ways to arrange your usage:

• Pay-as-you-go: you top up credit and use it as you put Mia to work. Handy if you work irregularly or are still trying things out.
• Bundles or subscriptions: if you build regularly, a fixed bundle works out cheaper. You reserve an amount of capacity per month and pay a fixed fee.

Which model suits you best depends on how often you use Mia and how large your projects are. A small business owner managing one app has different needs from a team adding new functionality every week.

What determines how much you spend?

A few factors affect your monthly costs:

• How complex your tasks are: a small text change costs less than building a completely new screen.
• How often you use Mia: building actively every day uses more than the occasional small change.
• The number of active apps: more apps means a larger environment, and so slightly higher base costs.
• Integrations and connections: apps that connect to external services (such as payment systems or calendars) can bring extra usage.
