From your WordPress site to the lights in your building: anything with a login can be connected

The principle: treat Mia like a new colleague

Imagine a new colleague starts tomorrow to maintain your website. What do they need? Not a site migration, not a new system — just their own account with the right permissions.

Exactly the same applies to Mia. She doesn't need to take over or rebuild anything: she logs in to what's already there, figures out how it works and gets to work. That single insight opens more doors than any integration.

Your website lives elsewhere — WordPress or an agency site

The most common question: "our site is with an agency / runs on WordPress — can Mia even get in?" Yes. Here's how you arrange it yourself:

1. On WordPress: go to Users → Add New and create a separate account, for instance with the Editor role.
2. With an agency site: ask the agency for a separate CMS login (or the admin panel credentials).
3. Give that login to Mia — and tell her what needs to happen.

Mia logs in the way you would, explores how the site is built and makes the change: updating copy, a new page in the same style, an extra form. Afterwards she reports what she did.

One rule of thumb: give Mia her own account instead of your personal password. That way you see exactly what happens on her behalf, and you can revoke access at any time.

The lights story: one photo of a router

True story, at our place. There are those smart colour bulbs that only want to talk to their own app. Daan sent Mia a single photo of the router — the label with the network details on it.

A few minutes later Mia had joined the network, found the bulbs and built a small app for them, hooked into the chat. Ever since, the lights there go on and off with a message. No extra subscription, no official app needed.

Want to try it yourself? Many smart devices — think Wiz, Hue or Shelly — have local controls your own software is allowed to talk to:

• Search for your brand plus "local API" and see what your device can do locally
• Put a small script on a computer in the same network
• Wire it to a button, a timer or a chat message

A fun evening project if you like puzzles. But the point isn't the lights. The point is: anything with a login, a network or an API can be connected. Your till, your planning, that one machine with a web interface. Every "wouldn't it be handy if…" you ever waved away because it wasn't possible — chances are it is now.

Where the line is

Honesty is part of it. This is how we handle access:

• You grant access, deliberately. Mia only asks for what the job needs, and you decide.
• Everything is revocable. Delete the account or change the password, and access is gone.
• Not everything is possible. Systems without a login or API, or environments where it isn't contractually allowed (such as banking environments) are not candidates. When in doubt, Mia says so honestly before you share anything.

The best first step: name the system you're thinking of and ask Mia whether it can be done. Finding out costs nothing.
